Our April Events
Three Exciting Public Discussions

We are excited to invite you to three upcoming events in April, including two public lectures and a community discussion panel, a new format for our Center. We look forward to connecting with you across these events and learning from a variety of scholarly, journalistic, and community voices.
As we continue to grow, we invite you to stay informed of our Center’s development by following our Facebook page, subscribing to our YouTube channel, and paying attention to this newsletter as we share emerging voices in the study of evangelicalism, our upcoming events, recordings of our lectures, bonus content, and new scholarly work with you all.

Thursday, April 3rd - Community Discussion Panel

Join the Center on Thursday, April the 3rd, at 5:30pm in the Greenhaus at Kinship Landing for a conversation with a panel of local Colorado Springs residents around leaving the evangelical church and what it has meant for them. Open discussion with attendees will follow the panel discussion, which will be moderated by Prof. Jeffrey Scholes & Gary Alan Taylor.
This event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.
Thursday, April 10th - Sarah McCammon Lecture

Join the Center on Thursday, April the 10th, at 6pm in Shove Memorial Chapel, 1010 N Nevada Avenue, for a lecture from Sarah McCammon, National Political Correspondent for NPR & Co-Host of the NPR Politics Podcast. McCammon will discuss her bestselling 2024 book The Exvangelicals: Loving, Living, and Leaving the White Evangelical Church. This lecture is being generously co-hosted by the Colorado College Chaplain’s Office.
The event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 5:30pm, and there will be a public Q&A and a book signing hosted by Poor Richard’s after the event.
Wednesday, April 23rd - Aaron Griffith Lecture

Join the Center on Wednesday, April 23rd, at 6pm in the Heller Center for Arts & Humanities, 1250 N Campus Heights, for a lecture by Aaron Griffith, Assistant Professor of American Church History at Duke Divinity School. He will discuss his work on how Evangelicals shaped, and were shaped by, the American criminal justice system, the subject of his book God’s Law & Order: The Politics of Punishment in Evangelical America, winner of the 2022 “Best Book in History & Biography” award from Christianity Today.
The event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 5:30pm, and a public Q&A will follow the lecture.

Featuring distinguished scholars of American religion, Dr. Anthea Butler, Geraldine R. Segal Prof. in American Social Thought at the University of Pennsylvania, and Dr. Randall Balmer, John Phillips Professor in Religion at Dartmouth College, this panel will consider the contemporary entanglement of religion and race in U.S. democratic politics. This event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6pm, and a public Q&A will follow the discussion. |
